High Road Leyton

With East Architecture Landscape Urban Design and GVA Grimley for London Borough of Waltham Forest [ongoing]

The High Street Life Strategy and Shopfronts Pilot Project are a comission from Waltham Forest Council forming part of the public realm improvement works being undertaken by the Council in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games. The project comprises three task areas, economic research, an urban design strategy for Waltham Forest’s high streets and works to a number of terraces on High Road Leyton funded by the Council and the London Development Agency. Central to the project is the aim to firmly establish a local identity for the high street. The Shopfronts Pilot Project will test how conservation work alongside the considered introduction of contemporary details can act as a catalyst for sustainable urban regeneration that takes note of the contemporary retail environment while also engaging with the culture of the site.
