Our client’s design brief sought to realise transformative change to a Victorian terraced house in Hackney on a tight budget. In an attempt to create a place of respite from a busy lifestyle, we concentrated on four main elements, a counter-folding glazed screen, a simple and functional kitchen, a new floor and a wood burning stove. White walls, pine floorboards and painted timber units give the space a serene appearance, whilst acting as a blank canvas for our client’s furniture collection. The glazed screen brings in daylight and creates unimpeded flow between inside and outside. Integrated storage frees the space from clutter. A simple but intelligent lighting strategy combines even background illumination with pools of light at focal points.
