Kabale & Liebe
Drama by Friedrich Schiller, with: Marius Hubel, Sabrina Strehl, Ulrich Popp, Stefan Lehnen, Sascha Grüb, Jessica Higgins, Bálasz Várnai, director: Anna Malunat, costumes: Katja Krannich, dramaturg: Katrin Dollinger, lighting: Michael Bauer, Prinzregententheater Munich, 2004.
Our production of Schiller’s classic drama investigates the communication structures between the characters. It is not their class differences that creates conflict, but their unwillingness to compromise a small part of their personal ideology and ambitions to accommodate other people living around them. Language is used as a tool to dominate others and to paint castles in the air. Miscommunication causes two fatalities. The stage set makes the audience a bystander to the dramatic events by rigorously removing the boundary between stage and auditorium.
