Morden Court is one of these civic landmarks that has a place in the collective memory of a generation growing up in Morden. For the last 2 years, Gareth has been working with residents, shopowners and Merton Council to restore the building to it’s former glory. Finally, the scaffolding has come down and the true extent of the work is visible. The striking white facade sets a sharp contrast against the blue sky. Soft rounded corners, minimal detailing and curved balconies remind of the 1930s; the era of the great steam liners. Shop signs, awnings, stall risers and displays are framed by the white walls, giving room for the individual and eccentric appearance of each business. 39 properties received work as part of the Council’s GLA funded town centre regeneration programme, a wide-reanging initiative to serve as a pre-curser for the wholesale regeneration of the town centre.
