Blue House Yard up & running

Our meanwhile workspace project in Wood Green is now up and running. The former Haringey Council car park and adjacent council office building were converted to provide workspace for some 20 local businesses arranged around a new civic space at the heart of the town centre. Haringey’s economy is predominantly powered by small enterprises with 90% of businesses employing 9 or fewer individuals. Haringey Council wants to safeguard it’s town centres as places of industry, making and production and at the same time harness the cultural vibrancy that these uses bring. The building of Blue House Yard was funded by the GLA and High Street Works, a joint venture company owned in equal parts by Meanwhile Space CIC and Jan Kattein Architects. The project is not just about providing workspace. The unusual delivery strategy provided opportunities for community volunteers and apprentices to participate and learn. The public space in the centre of the site is now home of regular events, night markets and of course our double decker bus cafe. Tenants for the very last vacant unit are moving in tomorrow, just 13 months after we were appointed to deliver the project.
